Horse Record Keeping

Have you ever had a vet ask you when you first noticed a cut or lameness in your horse and you were unable to remember when it was?  If you want to know quickly and easily how long it has been since your horse has his feet done or got her teeth floated, I highly recommend keeping careful notes of your horse's health records.

Vets, chiropractors, and farriers also appreciate having a full history when they work on your horse.  I keep my horses' records in binders with clear plastic sleeves so they're protected from the elements.  In the front and back, I put photos to help identify the horses in case they ever get stolen.

In the front, I keep an overview with important dates for shots, Coggins, teeth floating, chiropractic, feet trims/shoeing, as well as the horse's name, breed, gender, height, date of birth, and markings.

I also keep the most up to date Coggins test and any insurance information towards the front. Breed registration papers, bill of sale, and pre-purchase exam paperwork also should be kept where they are quickly accessed in your binder.

You can insert veterinary and chiropractor invoices, x-rays, receipts, etc.  If you keep them in order by date, you can easily retrieve a full history, even if you forget to write down all the dates on the front page.

Horse keeping involves a lot of appointments and medical records.  Keeping track via a horse health binder like this is inexpensive and easily done.
