47th Annual English Horse Show tomorrow

The Olmsted County Fair is this week in Rochester and tomorrow Thursday July 30th is the 47th Annual English Horse Show. This show has a variety of classes, including equitation over fences, hunter over fences, equitation group classes, egg & spoon, bareback equitation, and a costume class.  Classes are split by age and experience of horse and rider.

Here is the full schedule of classes.  The show begins at 11 am and typically completed by mid-afternoon. The superintendent is Leah Allert.

Bernie Traurig Clinic This Weekend!

Bernie Traurig, a renowned international competitor in dressage, showing jumping, and eventing, is offering a clinic at The Stables EquestrianCenter in Rochester, MN on May 23-26.  He was the associate Chef d’ Equip to George H. Morris of the United States Equestrian team and has been inducted into the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame.  He has trained with and learned from the best in the country and he is one of the most sought after clinicians.

The clinic format will be 2-hour group lessons Saturday through Monday with a one-hour break for lunch.  The clinic runs from 8-5 Saturday and Sunday, 8-4 on Monday Memorial Day with the final hour being a dressage/flat lesson.  Tuesday there will be two dressage/flat lessons from 8-10 am.  Additionally Saturday will have a pot-luck at 6:30 pm following by a video presentation and Q & A session at 7 pm.

Located on 65 acres, The Stables Equestrian Center, is a lovely facility.  It boasts a 150' x 75' indoor arena with rubber/sand footing and ceiling fans as well as two outdoor arenas with washed sand footing (230' x 120' and 200' x 80').  There's a fully-equipped lounge for the Q & A and a wireless PA system in the indoor arena.

Ralph Hill at Hollow Creek This Weekend!

If you missed Otter Creek's Spring Horse Trials, there's another chance this weekend to catch some eventing fun at a Ralph Hill clinic at Hollow Creek Farm in Menomonie, WI. 

Ralph Hill is a very highly respected 4 star veteran and eventing instructor. In fact, he has the distinction of being the only rider to compete in every Rolex from its inception in 1978 to 2007.  A fall sidelined him from competition but has nothing to dampen his dedication to the sport.  He is busy coaching and teaching clinics across the country.

Hollow Creek Farm has a 72' x 144' indoor arena, a 155' x 165' outdoor stadium arena, and a full cross country course with jumps for starter through training level. The clinic runs Friday-Sunday with dressage private lessons and groups of 2-4 for stadium and cross country. Auditing is FREE, and water bottles provided for all.

Otter Creek Spring Horse Trial this weekend!

The gorgeous Otter Creek Farm in Wisconsin is hosting their Spring Horse Trial this weekend. Attending this event as a spectator is a wonderful introduction to the equestrian sport of eventing which includes dressage (on Friday), cross-country jumping (on Saturday), and stadium jumping (on Sunday).

If you've never been there, you should take the time to check it out!  Otter Creek Farm is secluded and peaceful, a true gem! There are several dressage arenas with excellent footing that drains well in the rain.  The cross-country course is on a hillside which is breathtakingly beautiful and makes it easy for spectators to view most of the course from one central location. The farm has many evergreen trees, abundant green grass, and immaculate jumps, pavilion, and stabling.

Here are the ride times for dressage (on Friday) and cross-country (on Saturday). Stadium will be on Sunday and times will be set once it is determined who goes clear in the first two rounds.

Clinic this weekend with Lisa Fergusson at Roebke’s Run

Eventers, take notice! There’s FREE auditing at the Lisa Fergusson clinic May 2-3 at Magister Equitum Stables (Roebke’s Run).  All 3 phases (dressage, stadium, and cross-country) will be covered. For the jumping classes, there will be 3-4 riders in each group which are separated by level (Beginner Novice, Novice, Training/Preliminary).  There will also be a potluck dinner Saturday night. 

Lisa Fergusson is Canadian and has competed and trained through the Advanced level and brought young horses up through the levels.  She’s skilled at working on rider position. 

Roebke’s Run is a fabulous facility with one of the upper midwest’s finest cross country courses.  Their course was crafted by Eric Bull, Dan Stark, and Tyson Remener. It features starter, beginner novice, novice, training, preliminary, intermediate, CIC* and CIC** jumps, such as the ones below.

FEI World Cup Jumping 2015 Starts Tomorrow!

All the horses and riders have arrived for the Longines FEI World Cup in Jumping this week in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The Longines FEI World Cup in Jumping is the premier international indoor show jumping series in the world. Riders from 13 regional areas around the world participated in qualifying events for the opportunity to compete in this series which culminates in a Jumping Final on Sunday April 19^th.

This is the list of competitors, 12 of whom are representing the USA. Others come from The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Italy, Russia, Latvia, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, and even Qatar.

If you don’t have tickets to see the series live in Las Vegas, you can watch it all online on FEITV, for a monthly subscription price of $45 (each subsequent month is only $15).  There are also options for annual subscription ($80) or 24-hour access ($27).

Sunborn Stables Schooling Show Sunday!

Want to get out and watch a dressage and jumping schooling show yet be indoors during this last bout of wintry weather? You're in luck! Sunborn Stables in Chisago City is hosting their first show of the year on Sunday March 29th.  

Don't worry!  There's an indoor arena to keep you out of the wind as you watch with a heated viewing area too.
